                                  Dear Potential Sponsor,

                                  Picture

BLSA’s 2011-2012 programming is centered around the theme “Raising Awareness in our Communities; Developing Awareness in Ourselves.” In order to bring the vision of our theme to fruition, BLSA will supplement our successful mainstay workshops with new and exciting programming, which will assist law students with the transition into law school and into the legal profession.  Highlights from these events include:

                                  • Urban Prep - Law Student for a Day: Students from Urban Prep Academy tour the law school, meet with members of the Black Law Students Association, and chat with Law School faculty members. This event is one of BLSA’s pipeline programs aiming to increase minority representation in the legal field.
                                  • Diversity in Large Law Firms: Practicing attorneys and faculty members will speak to the student body about the role diversity plays in the work force, challenges young diverse attorneys face, and how to adapt to a changing legal environment.
                                  • Criminal Justice Inequality: As part of our Black History Month Programming, we will host a lunch-time panel discussion focusing on the racial disparities in the criminal justice system. Topics will include the crack/cocaine sentencing disparity and racial disparity present in capital punishment.
                                  • 1st Annual Golf Tournament: A spring event that will allow attorneys the opportunity to play the game alongside students in celebration of diversity.
In support of our aforementioned efforts, we invite you to consider sponsoring our organization.  BLSA depends on contributions, and with your pledge of support, we can continue organizing programs which nurture the University of Chicago Law School student body.

We welcome your consideration and thank you for your time.  If you have any questions about our programming or how you might contribute to our efforts, please feel free to contact us personally.

                                  Sincerely,

                                  Shaton C. Menzie                                                       Renard Miller
